A day in the Life of a Queen in her Castle

By now you must be asking yourself, what does one do all day when she doesn't have a job, and lives alone with her two dogs. Well, I'll tell you. This queen looks for jobs - going on the occasional interview,  sleeps ALOT, blogs, takes pictures of nothing, and plans what her new backyard is going to look like. It's all rather boring.

I start out the morning, enjoying a nice cup of coffee. I'll often open my  computer and enjoy my coffee while perusing the job boards looking for gainful employment. ADD sets in, and I open several tabs on my browser and end up shuffling back and forth through all of them getting side tracked along the way. For example, I found this on craigslist...Free bag of SALAD. I mean right? Or this one, free hats. I thought it might be something cool, but no, I was sadly mistaken...no offense to the hat guy. However, it did make me literally laugh out loud...so I tip my proverbial hat to you dude!

After a few hours of wasting time, sometimes productively, I decide that it's high time I get outside, while the weather is still nice. I mean, living in the middle of the desert, we don't get many days of tolerable temperatures. This is however, where I run into a slight problem. No job means no excess spending. I can't seem to justify any extra spending to beautify my back yard, hence the activity of scouring craigslist...and I must tell you, I am kicking myself now for not jumping on a fantastic find a few days ago. Five resin trellises for $40. I so could have used them to mask my A/C unit and had two left over. Lesson in hesitation learned!!! I have a feeling that this project will be slow going until the cash starts coming in again, and then slow going because I'll be working again. What's that they say about double-edged swords!?!? Oh well, this Queen is off to find something more prodcutive to do than sit here at her computer...maybe lunch.

A just for now kinda garden

I was strolling through Target garden center one day and I saw a Tospy Turvey Hummingbird planter. I refrained from making the purchase however I am now starting a hummingbird and butterfly container garden. If it grows I may transfer my newly created garden to a hanging planter. All my container garden efforts are because I haven't the play cash to landscape my boring, naked backyard. Container gardens may have to fulfill my garden itch for now! ;-) Sorry if they're hard to see right now. More pictures to come as they become well established. Thank you Target Dollar Spot for my new container garden babies!

This is it!

I saw once on someone's blog, a cute signature and I thought to myself, "self, because that's what I call myself, I want my blog to be cute like that one." So I set out in search of the perfect way to add a signature like that one, but with my own name. As resourceful as I am, it was easy to find the cutest blog on the block. It was there I learned the trick!

Check out The Cutest Blog on the Block. Here you will learn how to do what I did and your posts can be cute too!Photobucket

Gardening help

Four days ago I pruned my plumeria. It has only ever been a stick producing leaves. I read that they can be cut to force branches. How long should I wait before I completely freak out that I stunted her? Help!

Queen of my own Castle

It was approximately eight years ago that I had this funny little thought. That thought was that if I didn't get out now, I was doomed to grow old living at my mother's house. So, it was decided then that I would venture out on my own, and become part of this grand society of homeowners. Little do they tell you that to become a member of this elite group, comes a vast expanse of responsibility. That tidbit comes much, much later. I mean, I knew there was some, I was after all a graduate of the prestigious Syracuse University, but the amount was unfathomable.

Not long after I was granted the keys to my new kingdom, I soon discovered that there was a lot I was not prepared for. There were dishes, and cleaning, and then there was the issue with the laundry. All things that I had not had to worry about ALL the time when residing under the safety and security of my mother's wing. And don't even get me started on the topic of yard work.

Yes, when I was younger, living with my father, there was a certain about of yard work I had to complete in order to procure a little cash each week, but holy crap the yard work that has to be done all by yourself when you live alone as I do. Sure, my two four legged roommates keep away intruders, but they're no help with it comes to cleaning up after themselves, let alone attempting to landscape or weed. I can't imagine how much there would be if I had an actual "big house" yard!

So here it is, eight years since becoming the Queen of my Castle, that I have decided that I will take on my back yard. I'm not sure what exactly what I'm going to do to it, all I know is, it needs a tummy tuck, if nothing else a facelift. Better to hit it now, when it's still a tolerable heat, than in a month or so when it's like death valley outside. I'll be sure to post pictures as I go for you, my trusty followers can witness the transformation!

Havin' a baby

No, it's not an April Fools joke, I'm growin' a baby...PLUMERIA!!!  Haha...I was outside playing in my yard and I decided that my boring old stick of a Plumeria needs to do something interesting. I googled caring for my little tree and found that you can prune them to induce branching, as well as root the cutting for a new tree. So I figured I'd give it a shot. These are photos of the momma plant. Her cutting has to dry out
(according to my pediatrician) for a couple of days, possibly even a week before she can be planted as well.
I decided this was something I wanted to do from the day I brought home Momma. I've had her two and a half years and she's never given me flowers, just big beautiful leaves. So today not only did Momma get a haircut, but also fed. I'm thinkin' the lack of fertilizer over the years resulted in her refusal to produce flowers. Wish me luck. I'll keep you updated on momma and baby! ;-)
